What to Expect From a Microblading Session

Beauty trends may be constantly changing, but one thing that has remained in style is thick, luscious-looking brows. Long gone are the days when over-plucked eyebrows were all the rage. Nowadays, everyone wants full brows that frame their face.

Eyebrows are an essential facial feature — and when well-shaped, they can completely transform your face, creating just the right amount of extra definition. Unfortunately, we aren’t all blessed with big and beautifully shaped brows and some of us need a little extra help.

If you are tired of filling in your eyebrows with a pencil and want to wake up every day with perfect brows, then microblading could be for you. Microblading offers an effective solution and will give you the perfectly-shaped brows you have been longing for.

How Does Microblading Work?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo that fills in any gaps in your eyebrows. This creates the illusion of thick and full brows and is designed to give your eyebrows both shape and extra color.

During a microblading session, your eyebrows will be numbed with a special cream. Then, a small handheld tool is used to draw on highly pigmented, fake hair strokes in the same color as your natural brow hairs. Although this can be a little painful, the results speak for themselves and make any discomfort completely worth it.

At the end of your sessions, your eyebrow practitioner should apply a special cream over the finished brows. This ensures that the microblading healing process is successful and that you get the best results.

Treatment Duration and Touch-Up Sessions

You might be wondering — how long is an average microblading session? Well, it depends on both your brows and the look you’re going for. A normal session usually lasts from around 30 minutes to 1 hour, but 2-hour sessions have been known to happen.

Before drawing on the hair strokes, your aesthetician will remove any stray hairs. They will then study your brows before choosing the right pigment color for you, as well as tracing a brow outline on your face as a guide.

Once the session is finished, you’ll notice an immediate difference — but you’ll see the full effects of the microblading around two weeks after your appointment. However, you’ll need to book a follow-up appointment for a touch up six weeks after your first session, to fill in any gaps where the pigment didn’t take.

How to Care for Your New Brows

After the session, your eyebrows will scab over as part of the microblading healing. However, you mustn’t pick these scabs off — as this could alter the effects of the treatment. Another essential part of microblading aftercare is to avoid getting your brows wet or sweaty for at least a week, as this could remove not only the scab, but also the artificial pigment.

It’s normal for your brows to feel slightly itchy or sore right after treatment, but you can alleviate these annoying sensations by applying a microblading aftercare cream or petroleum jelly. You’ll also notice that your brows appear red and perhaps darker than you wanted at first – this is normal, however, and will go away on its own after a couple of days.

Once your brows have fully healed, you can treat them as normal. However, as mentioned earlier, you may need a few top-up sessions if the pigment fades for any reason.
